1. Manual handling equipment management; including identifying gaps in equipment needs
2. Use of handling aids
3. Equipment evaluation prior to procurement to ensure compatibility
4. Training in the use of patient hoists, sling fitting and/or transfer aids such as slide sheets
5. Training clinical staff in patient handling techniques
6. Installation of appropriate ramps, doors etc. to allow hoist access
7. Regular preventative maintenance programmes for equipment and facilities
8. Regular staff refresher for equipment and manual handling training
9. Be able to demonstrate manual handling policy, full compliance and familiarity with legal health and safety requirements
10. Consultation with health professionals in the assessment, selection and use of equipment
11. Accident and Incident reporting and investigation
12. Corrective action and future risk management
13. Assessment of staff core competencies to implement training, assessment, and managing patient transfer tasks under their supervision
14. Identify patient type, medication, handling activities and patient ability
15. Understanding of patient transfer scenarios such as supine to seated, walking, toileting, bathing/showering, floor to standing etc.
